Homemade soft flatbread is super easy to make and is perfect for gyros, sandwiches, or just eating alone. So quick and cost effective too.
Ingredients
- 1 cup Warm Water
- 2 1/2 cups All-Purpose Flour
- 1 tsp Instant Yeast
- 1 Tbsp Olive Oil
- 1 tsp Salt
Instructions
- In a stand mixer bowl with the dough hook attached, mix together the warm water, flour, yeast, olive oil and salt.
- If dough is not coming together try scraping the sides of the bowl and sprinkling in more flour a couple of tablespoons at a time until the dough clears the sides and bottom of the bowl.
- Knead dough for 5 minutes in the mixer or 10 minutes by hand.
- Place the dough in an oiled bowl and cover with plastic wrap.
- Let the dough rise until doubled in size, about one hour.
- Divide the dough into 8 pieces, cover with plastic wrap or towel and let rest for 10 minutes.
- Roll out the pieces of dough into circles.
- Dry fry them on a hot skillet 2-3 minutes per side or until they are slightly puffed with some browned spots. If they are taking longer to cook try increasing the heat of the skillet so the dough does not dry out.
- Stack the cooked flatbread on a wire rack under a towel to keep them soft.
- Eat warm or keep in a plastic bag to enjoy later.
