Nothing says comfort food like this old-fashioned classic meatloaf. With the tangy topping it's sure to become a family favorite.
Ingredients
For the Meatloaf
- 2 pounds Lean Ground Beef
- 1 medium Onion, diced fine or shredded
- 2 cloves Garlic, minced
- 1 Tbsp Butter, unsalted
- 1 large Egg
- 1 cup Panko Bread Crumbs
- 1 cup Whole Milk
- 1 Tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
- 1 tsp Dried Thyme
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1/4 tsp White Pepper
For the Topping
- 1 cup Ketchup
- 1 Tbsp Brown Sugar
- 2 Tbsp Dijon Mustard
- 1/4 tsp White Pepper
Instructions
The Meatloaf
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy clean-up.
- Melt butter in a small sauté pan over medium heat and add onions. Sauté onions until fragrant and slightly brown. Reduce heat to low and add garlic. Cook until fragrant, about 1-2 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside to cool slightly.
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, egg, Panko bread crumbs, milk, Worcestershire suace, Thyme, salt, pepper, cooked onions, and garlic. Using your hands mix until just combined. Shape into a loaf on parchment paper lined baking sheet. Using a sharp knife , cut criss cross pattern on top.
- Bake uncovered for 40 minutes.
The Topping
- In a medium bowl, combine ketchup, mustard, brown sugar, and white pepper.
- After the meatloaf has baked for 40 minutes, spread ketchup mixture on top then continue baking 30-35 minutes or until internal temperature reaches 160 degrees F.
